Meet Our Summer Intern

Ana Faguy is a rising junior at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia studying Political Science, with minors in Journalism and Leadership Ethics and Organizational Sustainability.

Originally from the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., Ana has also lived in Kentucky, Georgia and Michigan. She is passionate about writing and journalism and one day hopes to find herself a career in broadcast or print news.

For the past two years Ana has worked for her university’s student-run newspaper, The Hawk — most recently serving as editor-in-chief.

At Maryland Matters, Ana reports, writes, works on our social media, helps improve the look of our website, and does a variety of other essential jobs.

Ana’s arrival last month is another mark of the progress we’re making at Maryland Matters. We have a long way before we get to where we want to be — a full-service news website with several reporters covering government and politics throughout the state. But we’re happy to have another hand on deck. We need all the help we can get.

You may not know that we are a nonprofit operation. We are modeling ourselves after other successful nonprofit websites that are providing vital news and information in regions of the country where the traditional media have cut back on the resources they’re dedicating to covering government and politics.

Our role models include The Texas Tribune,  MinnPost,  The Lens, and Vermont Digger. Like them, Maryland Matters is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News.

Please help us reach our goal — and help us pay Ana — with a tax-deductible contribution. Donations can be made electronically here. Or they can be made by mail: Maryland Matters, P.O. Box 11121, Takoma Park, MD 20913.

Thank you!
